Work being undertaken next to Risley School on the Roundway, Tottenham demonstrates the care which can be taken to protect trees if you really want to. In an ideal world no tree would ever be damaged by pavement work but at this site they have wrapped the exposed roots with sacking and the lower portion of the trunk of each tree is covered with a protective wrap.
On the other side of the road the trees growing in grass each have an area around the base free of grass so that grasscutting operations do not damage them. It will be interesting to know whether herbicides have been used or whether it is the result of mulching. Watch this space. If only this system could have been adopted for Downhills Way.
